Have you ever been interested in alternative health and want to share it with the world only to be told, "That doesn't work, it's not a prescription." Or your friends and family look at you like you've fallen off the deep end? I have grown accustomed to those looks and feelings from my friends. Thankfully, my family just knows this is what I'm doing and that once I get my mind on something, it's pretty difficult to sway me another direction. But, what better things to be interested in than ways to heal and treat myself and my family with natural products?
So, here is my doTERRA story. While I have only been involved with these oils for a very short time, they have been powerful enough to make a believer out of some of the people in my life who never would have given them a chance. Let's back up about a month and a half. My family and I were camping in the beautiful mountains of Idaho when my middle daughter came to me complaining of an itchy head. My first thought was, "Oh no, not again!" We had suffered a mild lice outbreak a month previously. And after treating them multiple times, I neglected to continue checking them, assuming the problem had been dealt with. I was wrong. I found the little tell-tale signs that I had not been diligent enough in taking care of the problem the first time. The difference this time was that we were 90 minutes away from the nearest town, out in the middle of nowhere. I used what I had on hand - mayonnaise. I smeared the heads of all 3 of my daughters and wrapped them in big ziploc bags. It's amazing those things actually fit. (Just kidding, girls.) After 3 hours, we washed the mayo off. During that time, however, I researched and researched for treatments for taking care of this problem once and for all.
The next day we left our kids with my brother and sis-in-law and my husband and I drove to the closest town in search of essential oils that would kill and repel these little creatures. After driving an hour and a half, we discover the pharmacy is closed. On a Saturday. What to do now... Well, we went to the grocery store. They had 1 box of Nix. No other products. No tea tree oil. So, I start asking around. I spoke with a woman in the meat department, asking if she knew anyone in town who might have tea tree and lavender oil. She actually told me she may have some at home, but that she was on her way to a funeral and if I would be in town for a little while, she'd get it to me afterward. Of course, I couldn't say no.
While we were waiting for her to call me back, we went to the local hardware store, which is just amazing, and an easy way to kill an hour or so. I asked the woman behind the counter if she happened to know anyone in town with essential oils and wouldn't you know it, she was a doTERRA Consultant. Sign? Maybe. She got off for lunch an hour after that and told me she'd go home and bring all the oils she had that were designed to repel and kill lice. To my great surprise, she sold me 6 bottles of doTERRA oils at her cost. I was so thrilled I wanted to dance a jig. But, will they work?? Yes, after our first bout, I was still skeptical. See, even a believer can have doubts!
We got back to the kids and I started concocting a mixture that smelled absolutely fabulous. We performed all the necessary treatments. This time, I was much more diligent, checking everyday for 2 weeks. And after the 2nd day, there were no signs of any nits. We never did find any live ones. Success!!
After returning home, I started thinking about some of the things I had been struggling with over the years. Hair loss, beginning arthritis, gluten intolerance, and I was starting to show signs of starting perimenopause. Why couldn't I see if there was an essential oil to help me with these things? They certainly helped me before! So, I contacted my cousin, who ironically had tried to reach out to me about these oils months earlier when I first discovered my gluten problems. I told her about a few of the things I wanted to treat and asked if there was an oil for that. Why yes, yes there is. HA! But more importantly, there is a vitamin that can likely deal with all of the problems at once. So, I figured what the heck. I'll sign up as a consultant so I can get the wholesale pricing on these products and give it a try. I mean, if they don't work, I can always just stop. No harm, no foul. Right?
So, on August 29, I became a consultant with doTERRA. I received my enrollment kit 2 days later and began taking the Lifelong Vitality vitamins. Now, I understand that my results could be unusual and that they may not happen for everyone. After 3 days on these vitamins, I started noticing the arthritis pain in my thumbs diminishing. I was also applying Deep Blue, which is nectar of the Gods in my opinion. After a week, the pain in my right thumb was gone. After 2 weeks, the pain in my left thumb was gone. Amazing. But wait, there's more!! My hair had been falling out like crazy. I'm pretty sure my husband and children were starting to wonder if I was truly going to go bald with all the hair they'd see in my bathroom trash can. It was bad. After 2 days on the LLV vitamins, my hair loss dramatically decreased. And after 18 days, I am happy to report that not one day has resulted in the large handful/brushful of hair that I'd been plagued with before. In addition to the vitamins, I am also using Rosemary oil in my shampoo everyday.
I was/am so excited about these results that I took part in the 2012 doTERRA Engage Convention in Salt Lake City last week. It was such an amazing experience and I was able to meet so many wonderful people. The education was phenomenal. So, my goal is to share that knowledge with anyone who wants to learn it. Come and be empowered with me and so we can take back the responsibility of our own health care. :)
